This is the kind of place that takes you to a simpler time. Hot dogs cooked right behind the counter by the street window. Long line that moves right along. Great, delicious hot dogs and great friendly people working there with a true old time atmosphere. I like everything on it - chile, onion and mustard, I think it was around $1.15 just amazing and delicious. Sometimes there is just nothing like a great hot dog!

Don't get confused by all the other hot dog places named Abe's- this is the one you want to go to. In business since the mid 60's, Abe's is an institution in W-B. The menu is very basic, but you are really here for a hot dog or hamburger anyway! Hot dogs are prepared in front on the griddle, the chili and hamburgers are prepared in the back. The hot dogs aren't scary mystery meat, but quality Berk's franks (Amish butchers) made fresh to order. If you get a hot dog with everything you get the homemade chili, mustard and raw onions and it's well worth $1.05! A cheeseburger with everything has chili, ketchup and raw onions (I'd advise getting them grilled for more flavor.). This is the kind of place that should be on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Go now, Scott or Gary (3rd generation co-owners) will take care of you!

This is the original "Abe's." This place is known for their hotdogs. Their special sauce is what makes them taste so good. People come from all over the country for hotdogs here.

Great hotdogs!

Really good. The staff is friendly and the hot dogs are definitely tasty. It would be nice if they had fries, though.

So glad to read such wonderful reviews of this place. I love my dogs with chili, cheese, ketchup, and mustard. Worked here for years and I still never got sick of these amazing dogs and amazing staff! :)

1. Service - excellent, friendly people. 2. Price - very cheap, we had two hot dogs, two hamburgers, 2 bags of chips, and 2 drinks for under $15. 3. Ambiance - it looks like a diners. Dress is casual. Big enough to fit about 30-40 people. Good place to hang with friends. 4. Food - they're known for their hot dogs. It satisfies the hunger. Menu is limited. It's convenient and I would come back again. 5. Cleanliness - it was ok.

After stopping at another hot dog place nearby, I had to try Abes. Since I was full I just ordered one hot dog with mustard and chili. The hot dog flavor was just okay. The meat was super fresh but had no seasoning - bland. Very inexpensive however, not for me.

I came across this place from Yelp looking for good local hangouts that locals go to eat. I came here for lunch while in Wilkes Barre for a business trip. I love that the dogs are grilled on a flat top. The rolls were soft and very fresh. I got 2 plain dogs and a chili dog. The chili was good. Had a bit of a tangy spice to it. The staff was so friendly and attentive. The place is CASH ONLY so leave the credit/debit cards at home, its really inexpensive so that makes it all the better. They also have free parking on the side of the building. I would come back to this place when I am in this area again.

Great place... They keep 50 dogs on the grill all day long. That grill in the window must have had 1,000.000 Hot Dogs grilled on it by now. At $1.25 with mustard onions and chili included... (ask for extra chili no up charge) Sit at the counter and watch how quickly they go out the door.

A staple in NEPA. No other place has this level of deliciousness when it comes to hot dogs!

A Wilkes-Barre institution...fond memories of late night eats.

Went to Abe's recently and had two hot dogs "with everything" which includes mustard, onions, and meat sauce. They are quite simply the best hot dogs I ever had and that includes Pink's in LA. Be sure to go to the original Abe's on South Main Street.

Not fancy, not high class, just the best hot dogs in the world! This place has been in business forever. I know so many people that have moved out of the Valley and this is the first place they hit when they come home to visit. Cooked and prepared as you wait on the grill right at the counter. "everything" includes mustard, chili and chopped onion. The buns are so soft and fresh. I get mine with mustard and chili. My mouth is watering just thinking about these! Sometimes you just have to have a hot dog!

I am moving to France next week and I HAD to get to Abe's today to get a hot dog before I left. I ate two of them, they were as good as ever. Delicious hot dogs with everything on it (that's how I like em). The ladies who work there were cracking up when I told them I was moving and had to get some before I left. These have been delish for years and they never change. If you are in W-B you MUST try them.

My father-in-law has been speaking about this place for years... or should I say "raving" about it. He has claimed these were the best hot dogs ever and we finally were able to get the entire family there for the experience. This is a hole in the wall little place that I really enjoy going to, and was not disappointed. It's a pretty basic menu and the dog with everything is chili, onions and mustard... and of course chocolate milk. The chocolate milk must be a PA thing as I see this a lot at other hot dog places as well. Growing up in WI we had a lot of hot dogs stands but usually enjoyed them with a Coke. The hot dogs were very good, the chili was tasty and not "greasy" like at some places - I skipped the onions but it was very good, or should I say the three I had were very good! They don't have fries so we had a few bags of chips which allowed for a bit of extra room for the three dogs! I even gave the chocolate milk a try for the first time, had a drink prior to a bit, after a bite, and even in the middle of a bit... it didn't do anything for me so I still don't understand that PA tradition. Overall I am really glad I was able to experience this place and for a hole in the wall hot dog place it definitely rates 5 stars.

The hot dogs are simply one thing, heavenly. The first place I stop when I go home. It's atmosphere is great. Sitting there having some chili dogs with my pop pop, perfect! The service is always speedy and happy! Keep up the great job! The one and only Abe's!!

Good hot dogs. I go here for breakfast also sometimes and occasionally get some of their other items on the menu. Good stuff.
(4)Angela G.
Great dog, right off the grill. Love the smooth chili. Friendly service.
(5)Mick B.
Good grub, but hit the drive-thru if you don't wanna be begrudged into leaving a tip, as they seat you in the restaurant. It's a good value play if you dodge the tip.
(4)Patrick B.
Best hot dog in the Wyoming Valley. Usually served "with" where you get a tasty dog, warm bun, onions, mustard, and Abe's spectacular chili. I've been going to Abe's since my childhood, and the hot dogs and service are consistently good.

I love Abe's. Simple, perfect, cheap hot dogs. Back in the day, as a near broke college student, I probably ate more hot dogs here than I should have...but not as many as I wanted to. Nothing fancy, but just a great hot dog counter in the W-B, try them!

The best. Abe's is a hole in the wall dive looking place. It may be a couple of blocks too far away from downtown to be convenient, but is a classic that must be visited at least once in your life. There is a certain atmosphere about a classic hotdog joint that this place. It is not much more than a counter and a cash register but what more do you want at a hotdog place? Great prices too.
(5)Amanda A.
ONLY THE BEST HOT DOGS! Seriously. The most perfect hot dogs, made right at the counter when you order. Abe's sauce is to die for. Very cheap, too. I love this place!
